Hope, a restored Victorian-era hunting lodge in northern Scotland, has the good fortune of being situated in an ideal location. The striking seven-bedroom house overlooks Loch Hope, where it flows into the Hope River. In the summer, the landscape is rich and green with views across the water toward the mountains. These views, however, come and go, often obscured by layers of fog. This is Scotland, after all, and you expect that and wear your Barbour.
The lodge was painstakingly rebuilt and reopened early this summer. There are drystone walls around the property, slate shingles on the roof, and perfectly painted trim that will have you referring to your Farrow & Ball color book. The South African firm Cécile & Boyd designed the interiors, creating a warm, welcoming atmosphere with antiques, fresh flowers, and thoughtfully arranged artwork.
