Summertime lazing aside, news continued to erupt around the world, even as the more fortunate made a beeline for lakeside docks, lodges in the mountains, cabanas by the ocean, or—for those so inclined—catering trucks on hot Turkish tarmacs.

“Senior Whitehall sources” told The Mail on Sunday that Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor will, someday, get a “high-profile” funeral, even though his run as the Duke of York has ended and he’s no longer a working royal. The newspaper said that “the controversial arrangement is part of the Government’s so–called ‘bridge’ plans, which lay out—far in advance and in meticulous detail—the funeral arrangements for members of the Royal Family.” That’s nice! Andrew hasn’t had much to look forward to lately.
