Layer

Alphabet Jewelry

After years of successfully avoiding the personalized-jewelry trend, we have officially fallen for its charms, thanks to the hammered-gold earrings and pendants in Acne Studios’ new Alphabet collection. The rough-cut letters appear yanked from the metal, while the remains dangle underneath, and the finished product is delightfully abstract, just the way we like it. Buy one letter, or layer them in a stack for maximum effect. ($120–$160, acnestudios.com)

Pull On

The Fisherman Sweater

For women, the fisherman sweater has always been a tricky proposition. It tends to be slouchy and shapeless—although authentically so—and, therefore, less than desirable to wear around town. L. L. Bean is intimately familiar with this conundrum, having traded in the style for decades. And the Maine-based outfitter has delivered a slightly shrunken and infinitely more shapely version of the sweater, made of 100 percent cotton cables from the Aran Islands. Fall, winter, spring—it will tackle any conditions from the occasional breeze to a Snowmageddon. And at $99, why not order one in cocoa as well? (llbean.com)

Slip Into

Stubbs & Wootton

Here at Air Mail HQ, we’re an amiable bunch; our disagreements are usually of an intellectual nature. But when Stubbs & Wootton’s fall collection was released, and several of our editors dared to weigh in about their favorites, well, egos were wounded. Friendships damaged. Between the brand’s collaborations with John Derian and Colefax and Fowler, and the inclusion of an inspired array of needlepoint styles (tortoises, scarabs, hemp!), Stubbs has unleashed an embarrassment of riches. One style we can all agree on? The Cub slipper, with its lively shade of green, comfortable leather lining, and Wes Anderson connotations. Peace is restored. ($500, stubbsandwootton.com)

Wear

The Prada Skirt

In the realm of skirts, Miuccia Prada has few rivals—entire exhibitions have been dedicated to her designs. No surprise, then, that she has come up with the best fall-specific style we’ve seen so far this season. An elegant A-line shape, a smattering of strategically placed pleats, a gray-and-blue Prince of Wales check fabric, a demure back slit—the key components of a top-notch, office-friendly staple that looks equally great with sleek heels and chunky boots. ($1,350, net-a-porter.com)
