Lucio Blázquez’s restaurant is his life. In the mid-1940s, at age 12, Blázquez began helping around Meson del Segoviano, a long-standing restaurant situated on Madrid’s historic Cava Baja street. He remained there for 30 years until, in 1974, he took over the space himself, and opened Casa Lucio. There he has remained (still today, at 90 years old), ensuring that the quality, warmth, and specialty dishes—especially those with eggs—which define the restaurant hold firm. For those visiting, Casa Lucio offers the authentic experience so sought after by travelers. It’s elegant and quaint, and feels very much of the old world. And their desserts do not disappoint. —Jack Sullivan
