The artist Sean Scully once said, “My job is to return abstraction to the people: in a sense, to popularize it without lowering the bar, which is a lot easier said than done.” This exhibition examines his contribution to abstraction, looking at works from five decades—49 paintings and 42 works on paper. Rarely do we get to see Scully’s paintings, drawings, pastels, and prints shown together. —E.C.
