Weddings are stressful for everyone, but few weddings have ever been as stressful as Sophie Sheridan’s. A new production of Mammia Mia!, now playing at the Winter Garden Theater, is directed by Phyllida Lloyd, who helmed the previous Broadway production and the box-office smash Mamma Mia! movie. Beloved for its ABBA-centric soundtrack and joyous themes, the musical has been a fixture in the culture since its 1999 debut, in the West End.
