Auguste Rodin is known as the father of modern sculpture, but the man had a penchant for antiquities. His collecting ranged widely, and included Chinese pottery, Egyptian vases, Japanese masks, and Greco-Roman statues. He gazed upon the canonized masterpieces with a keen eye, but also loved the idea of fragmentation, how objects get broken and displaced through time. Over the course of his collecting, Rodin amassed 6,500 pieces, which he kept in his home and his studio. This exhibition places his art in conversation with his collection. —E.C.
