Hollywood actors have appeared in so many plays lately that it feels less like a trend and more like a new reality. This time, it’s Hugh Jackman, though here it’s more of a lateral step from big Broadway musicals to a straight play. Jackman stars as Jon in the premiere of Hannah Moscovitch’s Sexual Misconduct of the Middle Classes; also cast is the daughter of Warren Beatty and Annette Bening, Ella Beatty, who recently wrapped her role as Regina in Henrik Ibsen’s Ghosts, at Lincoln Center. Moscovitch’s story is one we’ve heard before, though also one that never gets old. A respected university professor and novelist, Jon is on the verge of his third divorce when he crosses paths with Annie, a 19-year-old student who is an avid fan. Too avid. Guess what happens. Produced by Sonia Friedman and Jackman. Ian Rickson directs. —Jeanne Malle
