“To photograph is to put on the same line of sight the head, the eye and the heart,” said the French photojournalist Henri Cartier-Bresson. For him, the most important moment was the defining click, when head, eye, and heart are caught together. Cartier-Bresson’s lens led him all over the world, in search of those clicks. He photographed the Spanish elections, the coronation of George VI, George Balanchine and the New York City Ballet. He took the last photos of Ghandi, just a few hours before the Mahatma was assassinated. And yet Cartier-Bresson always made his way back to Paris. This exhibition offers original prints and audiovisual recordings of the photographer in his hometown. —E.C.
