At first scroll, her Instagram presence is like any other influencer’s. There’s a close-up of her bare, pretty face trying a salmon-DNA facial; a recommendation for the best place to go in New York to achieve “glass skin”; heavily curated photos of her in designer dresses as she emerges from taxis or poses in front of Coney Island rides. Then there’s a recent reel that focuses on Anna Delvey’s slim legs as she demonstrates to her 1.1 million followers how to pull up nylons under her ankle monitor. You know, the one that ensures she doesn’t go outside a 75-mile radius from her apartment in the financial district while her deportation case is pending. Accompanying the video is cheeky audio of a woman screaming, then saying, “This girl is the nastiest skank bitch I’ve ever met. Do not trust her.”

“It’s good to have a platform,” Delvey (a Russian-born German citizen whose given name is Anna Sorokin) tells me. The 35-year-old is freshly back from celebrating Fourth of July weekend in the Hudson Valley, where she posted photos of herself holding an American flag on the edge of an infinity pool. “It’s water-resistant,” she assures me when I ask about swimming with the ankle monitor. “I mean, I can’t submerge it for too long, but, you know, I didn’t go diving.”
