Sometimes it pays to look like a rich tourist and sometimes it doesn’t. If you’re checking into the Crillon, you don’t want to be pulling a tattered old Samsonite behind you. But wandering through a souk with a Rimowa, you’re suddenly a mark. The Northern California–based Aleon seems to have sensed this dilemma and has designed their range of cases accordingly. Not only are their rolling bags American-made, they’re impervious to the Mortal Kombat–like maneuvers of jacked-up baggage handlers, with aircraft-grade-aluminum construction, double-reinforced corners, and a full-length piano hinge. (This last detail is a serious improvement over competing cases, which typically have two or—if you’re lucky—three flimsy hinges.) Aleon’s Classic Carry-on is a great way to test the waters, and at just more than half the price of a Rimowa, you will leave for your trip with enough dough to buy that scimitar you’ve had your eye on. Just remember to ship it back. It will fit in your shiny new suitcase, but T.S.A. won’t be happy. ($699, aleoncase.com) —Nathan King

READ
Firstborn
This slim but moving memoir by Lauren Christensen takes as its through line a quote by Elizabeth McCracken: “The baby was dead, but he still had to be born.” It grapples with something no one should have to come to terms with—the death of a child—and no mother should have to experience: delivering said child. But the author’s story is as life-affirming as it is fraught, traversing subjects of searing loss and unimaginable grief with resolve. And readers can take comfort in knowing that, today, Christensen, a former Vanity Fair colleague who now works at The New York Times Book Review, and her husband, the novelist Gabriel Bump, have a healthy baby. Lather
Olaplex
You’ve been neglecting your scalp, but it’s O.K. You’re among friends. Who knew that it, too, required the tender loving care we bestow upon our face? Olaplex did, apparently, because its new No. 0.5 Scalp Longevity Treatment gets straight to work. Made of hyaluronic acid and ceramides, it soothes dry, itchy skin as the top-secret Bond Building formula uses essential fatty acids (among other wonders) to moisturize the scalp barrier. It gives everything a bit of shine, too, but that’s just a bonus. Before styling wet hair—or, if hair is dry, just before bed—use the needle-nose applicator to create a center part, then apply a thin layer of product along the hairline. Olaplex recommends treating at least three areas on the crown and back of the head. Finally, massage the cream thoroughly into the scalp. It’s gentle enough for daily use. And there’s nothing wrong with making up for lost time! ($44, olaplex.com) —Ashley Baker

WATCH
Douglas Is Cancelled
A middle-aged British news anchor tells a sexist joke at a boozy wedding and suddenly finds himself pilloried on social media and on a fast train to career suicide. That’s the premise of Douglas Is Cancelled, a cruelly funny 2024 BBC sitcom that seems very much in sync with satiric comedies such as The Office and W1A and Yes Minister. Until it isn’t. Created by Steven Moffat, whose credits include Doctor Who and Sherlock, the four-part series takes ingenious turns that upend expectations and are absolutely riveting. It’s one of the most surprising and bewitching shows in years, helped in no small part by Hugh Bonneville as Douglas and Karen Gillan as Madeline, Douglas’s ambitious and much younger co-anchor. DRINK
Moët & Chandon x Pharrell Williams
Moët & Chandon has teamed up with American musician—and the men’s creative director at Louis Vuitton—Pharrell Williams to create a stunning celebratory champagne line. The collection pays homage to the rich history of the French fine winery’s flagship, Imperial Brut, which was first produced in honor of Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte in 1869.We like the bottle adorned with a handcrafted beaded bow by Atelier Baqué Molinié. It’s an elegant way to toast your most special occasions. ($700, moet.com) —Merritt Johnson

WEAR
Chloé
Chemena Kamali, the new creative director at Chloé, is bringing back bohemian femininity in a sophisticated way that has charmed even the most minimalist, Row-addicted style setters. Her new spring collection has recently arrived in stores, and we just might spend more than $1,200 on a pair of high-waisted, flared ecru jeans. (What? They’re perfect.) But the statement piece of the moment is this cropped, fringed leather jacket in a winning shade of oxblood. (A longer, belted version in caramel is also very tempting.) The pared-back flap pockets give it extra design credit, while the snug, formfitting shape ensures that it can dress up very nicely. ($4,940; net-a-porter.com) —Ashley Baker
