Not long ago, aesthetically inclined globe-trotters were faced with a sartorial conundrum that weighed heavily on suitcases: “You either had fashion or function,” says Dant, who traveled often during her six-year stint at Burberry, where she designed men’s wear. At the time, she continues, “my need to pack efficiently was becoming more and more pressing.”
In 2015, Dant experienced an epiphany while visiting Donald Judd’s studio in the Texan town from which the line would draw its name. “He wasn’t just creating aesthetically; he was also creating pieces that had purpose and function,” she recalls. Over the next four years, she set to work on crafting a sustainably minded solution that would seamlessly transition between settings and seasons. Simply put, she says, “I wanted to create one thing that did it all.”
Behold the signature Parachute Parka, a featherweight thermal layer impeccably constructed in Italy from crease-proof nylon with adjustable, silhouette-altering drawcords. Available in two Air Mail–exclusive colors, the eye-catching building block is joined by a new zippered vest, which is similarly conceived to go the distance.
