The composer David Raksin once notably said that those who don’t appreciate the value of music in movies should be condemned to watch movies without music. And while the Academy relegated the Best Original Score nominees to the pre-show ghetto this year, we here at Air Mail have nothing but love and respect for film composers.
Here are pieces of music from some of our favorite films. Happily, we have not been condemned to a life without film scores. And as far as the Academy Awards misdirection goes, all we can say is live and let die.
