Well, you may find yourself waking up this Valentine’s Day with a poison heart and a twisted memory. And while we can self-love through some of the bile, perhaps this is a year to examine the dark contours of loves lost, never had, or misjudged. Maybe it’s a day to ignore life’s lessons and reach out to “the one,” or the other—or the others—who still have some romantic hold on us. But, please, not through social media, and not through e-mail. Do it with a song, a wish, or, God save us, a letter. “And in the end, the love you take is equal to the love you make.”
