At Air Mail, we strive to keep our affairs in exemplary order—both at the office and on outings—so it is only fitting that we partnered with Métier, the London-based creator of beautifully crafted leather goods, on a selection of five essential pieces for work, travel, and everything in between.
A subscriber since our earliest days, Métier founder Melissa Morris was already well versed in the aesthetic particulars of the publication before our collaboration was underway. “AIR MAIL is incredibly discerning and sophisticated, with a real attention to detail,” says Morris, whose commitment to what she describes as “invisible luxury” has attracted a clientele that includes Nicole Kidman and the Princess of Wales.
“Being able to infuse their voice—and tongue-in-cheek humor—into Métier pieces was really exciting.”
Co-designed by AIR MAIL co-editor Graydon Carter and handmade in Italy from supple, paper-thin leather in rich variations of our signature colors, the collection’s heirloom-worthy accessories were meticulously conceived to be as elegant as they are efficient. A multi-pocketed passport can tuck into a versatile travel envelope, which comes with custom note cards, or each can be used on its own; spacious enough for a tablet, a slimline folio, meanwhile, keeps a stack of notes and newspaper clippings neatly organized.
What’s more, a snap-closing diary cover features a hidden loop for the pen of your choice and a notebook containing both dotted and lined pages complete with the occasional AIR MAIL musing, such as an index of overused words. (“Celebrity,” “chic,” and “coiffed” are among the chronic offenders.)
And because we’re not all work and no play, we’ve also included a card case, equipped with a small strap to seamlessly pull out our specially created deck of playing cards. Printed with illustrations by the inimitable Italian artist and AIR MAIL contributor Andrea Ferolla, whose whimsical hand can be seen in details throughout the entire range, the petite game piece can be discreetly carried around to bring pleasure to any moments of downtime—whether planned or not.
For proof, just look to the likes of Pat Cleveland and Helena Christensen, who happily went on their way from the Waverly Inn—where this week we celebrated the launch with cocktails and an illusionist—with one of their own.) As Morris puts it, “Each object in the collection was made to be easy—and enjoyable—to use.”
