Here at Air Mail, piped pajamas are something of a fixation. Which explains why we went ahead and devised some of our own, in collaboration with Alex Mill. The pajama set—which comprises a shirt ($120), pants ($105), and shorts ($55)—is the ideal sartorial accompaniment to the issue, which is released every Saturday morning at six a.m.

Striped, piped, and ready for whatever the day may bring.

AIR MAIL is a favorite read of mine—it’s a staple of my weekend,” says Alex Drexler, who co-founded Alex Mill alongside Somsack Sikhounmuong, who also serves as the brand’s design director. Accordingly, the Alex Mill and Air Mail teams conducted painstaking research to improve upon one’s Saturday-morning ritual.

The pajamas were designed to be exceptionally comfortable and also utilitarian. The pants and shorts have plenty of pockets for a phone, keys, or what have you, and the shirt is an interpretation the brand’s popular work jacket. Crafted from 100 percent cotton poplin, each piece features custom stripes in our signature colors and is so cozy that it may end up being worn from night to noon—or even later.

(As it happens, they go nicely with a hot cup of Jet Fuel, a new coffee roast using single-origin beans from Colombia that the Air Mail team concocted with Flying Coffee.)

Wear them together, or mix and match with abandon.

“I always talk about how often I see people outside walking their dog in their pajamas,” says Sikhounmuong. “It’s such a thing—to run out and do things in your pajamas, whether it’s to grab a coffee or go to the store.” It’s a look embraced by the likes of artist Julian Schnabel and supermodel Gigi Hadid, but the Alex Mill team believes it’s a universal pandemic-era uniform that’s not going away anytime soon.

“It’s the idea that you don’t have to overthink what you put on,” says Sikhounmuong, who previously worked as the design director at J. Crew, and, before that, at Madewell. “It’s for everyone—anyone who sleeps, who loves lounging, and who likes stripes.” Here’s to a great morning, night, and everything in between.
