It’s time to retire our sandals for the season. Fall has arrived, and smartening up our shoe game is in order. Since we can’t travel to London—sob—and visit the Church’s boutique, on New Bond Street, well, these beauties will have to come to us. Made of patent leather and endowed with cheeky tassels and chunky heels, these are not your father’s loafers. Although if you do prefer a more streamlined, classic version, Church’s can handle that, too. You do you. ($523, matchesfashion.com)
The Scarf
Melanie Dunea
Photographer Melanie Dunea is known for her pursuit of the perfect image, a quest that has taken her all over the world. But during lockdown, her lens focused exclusively on the artist’s home base of New York, documenting the pandemic’s effect on the city as well as the social-justice demonstrations that streamed into its streets all summer long. Now she has turned three photographs from that body of work into a line of silk scarves titled “New York in Bloom,” donating a percentage of the proceeds to the NYC COVID-19 Response & Impact Fund, part of the New York Community Trust. Downtowners at heart, we’re partial to Washington Square Park. ($150, melaniedunea.com)
The Dress
Selkie
Ever heard of cottagecore? It’s not for everyone, but if you’re an urbanite in exile looking to lean into your rural 2020 reality, enter Selkie—fanciful, romantic, and even a bit cutesy. While we won’t be wearing a chiffon bubble anytime soon, this well-priced Monet Sunroom dress is hard to resist. Made of 100 percent cotton, it’s comfortable and breezy enough to wear around the apartment (or country house) but sufficiently tailored to hit the streets as well. It also gets bonus points for reminding us of an early-90s soap star’s Sunday best. ($199, selkie.com)
The Collab
Adeam X Naomi Osaka
Talk about perfect timing. On Wednesday, just days after Naomi Osaka won the U.S. Open, her foray into fashion arrived. Many months ago now, the tennis sensation and style enthusiast reached out to Adeam founder and creative director Hanako Maeda, and before long, the two were busy collaborating on a collection that explores their Japanese heritage and feminine aesthetic. There are a lot of very appealing outfits, but our favorite—for now, anyway—is the Naomi lace dress, with a peplum hem and cascading, layered skirt. Paired with a turtleneck, it is, in a word, winning. ($1,100; adeam.com)
