The Summer Dress

Ansea

As a new female-founded brand specializing in all things beach and swimwear, Ansea has adopted a less-is-more approach, with hardworking basics that service both the seaside and the city with equal skill. We first fell for their stylish wet suits, made of natural rubber and manufactured using low-impact environmental practices, but the latest crop of summer dresses has also exerted its charms. The Man Overboard design was inspired by the signal flag of the same name—and its relaxed attitude and precise fit, thanks to a drawstring waist and adjustable straps, are especially tough to resist. The Relaunch

Janet Russo

Janet Russo’s name has been familiar to fashion-lovers since the 80s, when she had her own shops in Nantucket and New York. Now the designer is back with a charming collection of sundresses inspired by Brigitte Bardot’s St. Tropez style, tinged with Italian glamour and a practical New England sensibility. A fabric collaboration with artist Fiona Corsini has been especially fruitful, as Russo’s dresses, which she now offers through trunk shows and her Instagram account, are already selling out. The Straw Tote

Altuzarra

Leather workbags are gathering dust in our closets. Although we’re still sheltering in place, we’re vacation-minded nonetheless, and this woven, fringed raffia version of Altuzarra’s Espadrille tote is just the thing to carry around town. Thanks to a braided-jute base, it’s primed to carry a relatively heavy load—wallet, iPhone, and a summer read (Rodham, by Curtis Sittenfeld, perhaps?)—while maintaining the levity of the season. ($895, net-a-porter.com)

The Cream

Tammy Fender

We haven’t seen the inside of a spa since there was snow on the ground. Accordingly, stepping up the skin-care game has been a top priority. In summer, we smear on zinc with abandon, so a religious cleansing-moisturizing regime becomes a must. Tammy Fender’s Spontaneous Recovery Crème does the job. Exceptionally rich but not greasy, this lotion is stocked with botanical ingredients such as buriti-fruit oil and irisroot. It penetrates the epidermis like an oil, protects like a serum, and locks in hydration like a moisturizer—the crème de la crème. ($165, bluemercury.com)
