The Gift Set

Flamingo Estate

We first discovered this splendid new brand over the summer, when we spotted Flamingo Estate’s Roma Heirloom Tomato candle at the home of Domino editor in chief Jessica Romm Perez. An obsession was thus born, and now we’ve gone deep into this entire collection of florals, beauty products, and home goods. Helmed by Richard Christiansen, part-time beekeeper and full-time director of the Chandelier Creative agency, the brand is run out of a hilltop paradise in Los Angeles’s Eagle Rock. The Clarifying Sage scent reminds us of this botanical neighborhood, and of why we want to return as soon as possible. With a candle, hand soap, tincture, and even a bar of chocolate, this gift set provides a temporary, restorative escape. ($110, flamingoestate.com)

The Scarf

Johnstons of Elgin

This is an approximation of the Perfect Scarf—a reversible gray-and-camel cashmere beauty that was first discovered at a French market by none other than Graydon Carter. Like the exemplar model, this one, from Johnstons of Elgin, is also made of absurdly soft cashmere, and is reversible—though here navy replaces gray. It is also large enough to provide toastiness but not so big as to be mistaken for a throw, and it looks especially charming when tied with style and aplomb so that the fringe can do its thing. We challenge you to find a more useful addition to your winter wardrobe without perusing outdoor vendors in France. ($600, net-a-porter.com)

The Dress

Michael Kors Collection

As we soldier into 2021, we must do so in style, and this double-breasted wool dress in a houndstooth check makes us feel ready for whatever the New Year has in store. Smartly tailored and military-inspired, it’s both a jacket and a minidress in one, using the very best elements of each to achieve maximum impact. The trim belt adds an extra dose of authority, and the cape-like back even swings when one walks. (Are we the only ones deriving confidence from Shelley Long’s energy in Troop Beverly Hills these days?) It’s the look that dreams are made of, and even if we’re stuck at home—for now—just admiring it in the closet will remind us of happier times ahead. ($2,850; net-a-porter.com)
