
“It seems so long ago that only a few people wore masks. Cowboys, bandits, and actors were masked, or masked faces of all ages would celebrate Halloween once a year,” says Richard Sassin. “Earlier this year, Don Bachardy painted me masked as a representative of the new world outside his studio. A four-year-old looked at my portrait and immediately recognized me because Don caught my individual identity in my eyes, where all souls live and Don rules.”
