If you ask any Italian what the best hotel in Rome is, most will respond without thinking twice: the Hotel de Russie. The Giuseppe Valadier-designed 19th-century building is nestled between two of the city’s most famous piazzas, Piazza del Popolo and Piazza di Spagna, and boasts what the hotel calls a “secret garden” with palm trees and roses that climb up the building’s façade. The suites look onto the greenery. Our favorite is the Picasso suite, which is where the artist stayed when he visited Rome for several months in 1917. —Elena Clavarino
