Known as “the Godmother of Miami’s art scene,” Mira Lehr has long been a mentor for the area’s artists. In 1960, she co-founded Continuum, one of the first co-ops for women in Miami Beach. Recently, her work Sacred Dreams became a permanent installation at the Jewish Museum of Florida–FIU, a gift from Dr. Robert B. Feldman. Described by Lehr as “a holy garden of light,” it consists of 183 hanging sculptures. Made with burned Japanese paper, acyclic, ink, and resin, the pieces are delicate, ethereal. “I want viewers to feel,” Lehr says, “like they are walking beneath an aerial garden of luminous, reflecting sculptures.” —E.C.
