There’s a reason that 75 years after the 1947 publication of Margaret Wise Brown’s children’s classic Goodnight Moon, we’re still finding new inspiration in the whimsy and calm of this rhyming bedtime story. Its appeal to universals such as safety, comfort, and kindness, its goodnight wishes to everything in earshot—“goodnight moon / goodnight room / goodnight cow jumping over the moon”—have made family of many generations. Kids grew up with the book, then read it to their kids. And artists keep coming back to it. A Goodnight Moon-inspired exhibition at the Fort Makers design studio and artist collective comprises ceramic table lamps by Samuel Harvey, hand-carved wooden spoons by Nick DeMarko, etched cubes by Fort Makers co-founders Noah Spencer and Nana Spears, and candles by Janie Korn. —J.V.
