At Dia Beacon, Haegue Yang’s new exhibition Through unfolds across both levels of the museum, using its architecture to explore contrasts between light and darkness, and between elevated and underground spaces. Drawing on the Five Phases theory of ancient Chinese philosophy as well as the music of the Korean composer Isang Yun, whose Images (1968) sounds throughout the show, Yang organizes a series of interconnected works around ideas of transformation, movement, and oscillation. Venetian blinds, metal louvers, bells, light, and sculptural forms create a dialogue between the two floors, engaging both the geometries of Minimalism and the fluid forms of Postminimalism. —Clara Scholl
