Called “the most important annual event in Asian art outside of Asia” by Princeton curator Zoe S. Kwok, the 12th edition of Asia Week brings together a dozen museums—including the Met, the Rubin, and the Brooklyn Museum—as well as 29 galleries. From bronze Shang Dynasty vessels to contemporary Indian paintings, works on view span all epochs and categories of South and East Asian art. Alongside the exhibits, six auction houses (Bonhams, Christie’s, Sotheby’s, Doyle, Heritage Auctions, and iGavel) will be mounting sales. For now, highlights include Daniel Shapiro’s collection of bronze ritual vessels; paintings by Hokusai; Bonhams’s 11th-century brass figure of Vajravarahi, from Northern India; and mesmerizing Ming and Qing lacquerware. —E.C.
