“I don’t think that architecture is only about shelter,” said the late British architect Zaha Hadid, “it should be able to excite you, to calm you, to make you think.” The new exhibition at Compton Verney does just that. “Towering Dreams” features drawings of 18th– and 19th–century buildings in Britain and the world over. Sourced from the collection at Sir John Soane’s Museum, the celebrated sketches are by some of the U.K.’s most pioneering architects. Visitors will have a chance to study their work, and also to play pretend and create their own cardboard structure. In this exhibition, design is king. —Carolina de Armas
