At some point while visting the Italian capital, a Roman friend will invariably say, “Let’s go to Ciampini.” They are referring to Caffè Ciampini, which specializes in tramezzini (crustless sandwiches stuffed with cheese, tuna, chicken, ham, or vegetables), thin-crust Roman pizza, gelato, and all variations of coffee and cocktails. Though aperitivo is technically Milanese, the Romans love it, and this is the placethey flock to at golden hour. Locals also know to go to the less touristy Piazza di San Lorenzo in Lucina location, though the food is excellent at both. —Ludovico Bonaccorsi
