Whether you like it or hate it, Dal Bolognese has always been a part of Rome’s fabric. It sits on the corner of the Piazza del Popolo, and has a beautiful outdoor dining area with plants, iron chairs, and white tablecloths. Perhaps it was the view onto that square, or the food (some of the city’s best carciofi alla romana are served here, as well as, of course, spaghetti alla bolognese), which has attracted all manner of stars since it opened. Gianni Agnelli loved the salads here, as did Elton John. Karl Lagerfeld, who threw a party there for Chanel a few years ago, loved the pasta. There’s something very glamorous about sitting on the Piazza del Popolo and bumping into Tom Cruise. —Maddalena Arrivabene
