That Was Then

As women pursued careers more actively in the 1970s, something had to give. And one of those somethings was their hair, or, more precisely, their roller-set hairstyles. The era ushered in small handheld blow-dryers, wash-and-go haircuts, and a variety of dry shampoos, bringing speed to a task that had been a total time suck. Mini-Mist spoke to the spirit of the era. “It’s for when you have more exciting things to do than sit around in rollers.” The copy may have been winking at a quickie—the song “Afternoon Delight” was also a product of the mid-70s—with the reassurance that “you don’t have to remove a thing.” —Linda Wells
