Indochine is happily one of New York City’s constants—little has changed since its opening in 1984. The impossibly gorgeous hostesses and waitstaff are still the norm, the food a wonderful fusion of Southeast Asian flavors meant to be shared, and the room lit moodily and complete with palm-tree wallpaper and cozy banquettes. On a recent visit, I noticed there are decidedly two seatings. The early half of the evening is for bringing out-of-town guests who you want to impress with your knowledge of cool but who you don’t want to spend all night with, or for parents who bring their adult children to relive the 80s. Then there is the second half which is louder, more flamboyant, and fun. Choose wisely. —Anjali Lewis
