The Naked Gun is back—37 years after the 1988 original. This time, director Akiva Schaffer takes the reins, and the Leslie Nielsen role goes to Liam Neeson, who plays Frank Drebin Jr., the son of Nielsen’s comically inept detective. Pamela Anderson is Beth Davenport, a femme fatale. Together, they set out to solve a murder, only to be pulled into a tech-tycoon conspiracy. The pair fall for each other, abandon sunny L.A., and end up in snowbound chaos. As in the original, the film blends cop-drama absurdity with slapstick mayhem—including a snowman seduction scene Schaffer fought to keep. One of the few comedies making a theatrical debut this year, it’s also, as one reviewer put it, “gloriously dumb.” —Elena Clavarino
