Most of us remember the consequences of Lehman Brothers’ collapse in 2008, but this epic play begins at the beginning. It is 1844 and Henry Lehman is just off the boat from Bavaria. “He took a deep breath, picked up his suitcase and … like so many others he stepped into the magical music box called America.” From the Lehmans’ humble start to their humbling end, we travel three centuries in three hours and 20 minutes. The brothers are played by John Heffernan, Aaron Krohn, and Howard W. Overshown, and Sam Mendes directed this landmark production. —Clementine Ford
