Jeff is a working-class man from Sharpsburg, Maryland. It’s 2017, and he and his wife, Michelle, have a newborn baby. Naturally, he’s anxious, wanting to give his child the best life possible. So he’s honored when his friend Dylan nominates him for membership in the local white supremacist group, a social advantage in their small town. All he has to do is verify his “pure” white lineage with a DNA test. When the results are other than expected, Jeff’s world begins to unravel. Add to that his wife’s postpartum depression, his lasting affection for his ex-girlfriend Alma, and the prejudice he faces from those around him, and you have Amerikin, a timely new play by Chisa Hutchinson.
