Not a Very Good Murderer

In May 2020, when presidential hopefuls were on the campaign trail, a former Miss Arizona named Celia Doane took to X to make a bold accusation: “Joe Biden sexually assaulted me.” The tweet caught the attention of the Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Ronan Farrow, who set out to investigate “Cece’s” claims. The investigation soon proved more complicated than he ever could have imagined, as more of Cece’s colorful history came to light: she was suspected of trying to kill not one but two of her husbands (one with Viagra, the other with a hit man). Part character study, part thriller, Farrow’s new podcast brings a fascinating degree of transparency to the inner workings of investigative journalism. —Paulina Prosnitz
