The Guardian’s Michael Billington recently described Elektra as “a play that combines formal perfection, profound passion, scrupulous fairness and sharp irony.” And yet the Greek tragedy has been absent from the West End for more than 70 years. Now it returns. The star Brie Larson (Captain Marvel) takes on the title role of Agamemnon’s grieving, revenge-seeking daughter, whose father was murdered by his wife, Clytemnestra, and her lover, Aegisthus. Daniel Fish directs the modern-day adaptation, translated by the poet Anne Carson. —Jeanne Malle
