Mimmo Rotella, 1950–1969

Sept 6 – Nov 20, 2020
Via Senato, 20, 20121 Milano MI

In the 1950s, the Italian experimental artist Mimmo Rotella (1918–2006) walked the streets of Rome at night, ripping posters of Italian film stars and advertising campaigns off the walls. He carried the fragments back to his studio, where he used them to create dizzying experimental collages on canvas. At Galleria Tega, a selection of these works from the late 50s and early 60s are on display. All are representative of postwar Italy: chaotic, lively, powerful. —E.C.
