“The last years of my life have been deeply introspective,” says Priscilla Rattazzi. Born in Rome, the photographer first picked up a camera while at boarding school in Wales, where she began making portraits of loved ones. Since then, her artistic exploration has ranged wide—she’s documented Utah’s mushroom-shaped rock formations, the bond between people and their dogs, and the resilience of ancient trees in the aftermath of hurricanes Bob and Irene. Throughout the course of her career, Rattazzi has seen friends die and her children leave home, obliging her to relinquish familiar comforts. “What we’re looking at is an evolution of who I am,” she says of her solo show at R+V, which spans five decades and presents three chapters of her work. —Jeanne Malle
