Salvo: Arrivare in Tempo

Salvo, Al bar Sport, 1981.

Until May 24, 2025
Via Nizza, 230, 10126 Torino TO

Salvo—Salvatore Mangione—was born in Sicily in 1947, amid postwar destruction in the South. In the 1970s, he made his way north to Turin. The Arte Povera movement was in full swing and Salvo joined up. But then he became interested in Conceptual art, and after that, he began painting traditionally. Salvo would drift in and out of the art scene until his death, in 2015, creating vibrant, often cartoon-like landscapes. Last year, a Salvo sold for $1 million at Christie’s. One of the biggest-ever Salvo exhibitions now comes to his hometown. —Elena Clavarino
