Since 2015, the Beirut-born artist and composer Tarek Atoui has traveled the world, recording sounds from Singapore, Athens, Porto, Abu Dhabi, and Beirut. His work bridges traditional music practices and contemporary art—essentially, he creates sound art. Do we hear only through our ears? Can sound influence social and historical events? In this exhibition, Atoui combines instruments he has made over the years with recordings from his travels. He will also dismantle and reassemble some of the instruments and their combinations in what he describes as a “ten-day improvisation.” —Elena Clavarino
