The Lowell Hotel

A room at the Lowell.

28 E 63rd St, New York, NY 10065, United States

I’m reluctant to recommend a hotel I can no longer afford, not because I am that poor but because New York City prices have risen so dramatically. The Lowell, on 63rd Street, close to Central Park and Madison Avenue, is somewhat overlooked but unmatched in class, even if you might toss and turn all night wondering how you’ll pay your bill. If you like to shop, you would be hard-pressed to find a better location for a stay in Manhattan. Pets are welcome for an additional charge, and they are treated as well as non-canine guests. Several years ago, I stayed there with my two corgis, both quite demanding, and they seemed quite satisfied with my choice of accommodations. —Alan Richman
