Finding truly authentic restaurants in Greece can be challenging. Some tavernas may lure you in with a subpar bouzouki player, plaid tablecloths, and promises of a Greek salad. And then, there’s Geros tou Moria. This tavern-style restaurant was established in 1926 and has stayed true to its roots. It rests in the picturesque Plaka neighborhood, a few minutes walk from the Acropolis. Though the food is satisfying, that isn’t the main draw: Come for the restaurant’s alluring view of the surrounding cobblestone streets, live music (performed nightly), and, yes, its authentic atmosphere. Though there are beautiful murals inside, we recommend opting for an outdoor table—better to soak in the Grecian sun that brought you to the Mediterranean in the first place. —Jack Sullivan
