Huma Bhabha: The Setup

Sept 9 – Oct 16, 2021
44 rue Van Eyck, 1050 Brussels, Belgium

The Pakistani-American sculptor Huma Bhabha creates “post-apocalyptic sculptures” out of found objects—cork, styrofoam, chicken wire, rubber tires. Totemic and solemn, her works show a wide range of influences: Ancient Egypt, African art, classicism, Cubism, even German Expressionism. Sometimes they hover between pathos and humor; sometimes their block faces invoke horror movies and monsters. In her first solo exhibition at the gallery, Bhabha’s The Interlocutor and The Ambitious One, both created this year, are on view. —E.C.
