Georgia O’Keeffe, Stables (detail),1932.

Sept 13, 2026 – Jan 3, 2027
5200 Woodward Ave, Detroit, MI 48202, United States

A lesser known aspect of Georgia O’Keeffe’s varied practice is the subject of this exhibition in Detroit. Widely recognized for her paintings of colossal flowers and desert landscapes, O’Keeffe also painted the towering skyscrapers of New York City and adobe structures found in the Southwest. Bringing together approximately 35 works from the 1920s to the 1960s, “Georgia O’Keeffe: Architecture” showcases the artist’s singular approach to the built environment. From her early years living at the Shelton Hotel, where she captured the vertical drama of the Manhattan skyline, to her later abstractions of architectural forms, this exhibition reframes O’Keeffe as both a chronicler and interpreter of modern architecture. —Hannah Gross
