When Jenny Saville was growing up in England, she found her eyes wandering to fleshy forms—Titian’s women, her teacher’s breasts, the folds of her own skin. “I just automatically pull out forms,” she has said. “It’s an instinct I’ve got as part of my nature.” Saville’s painted explorations capture the weight, tension, and physicality of the body with thick, gestural brushstrokes. This major solo exhibition, which runs alongside the 61st Venice Biennale, presents approximately 30 paintings from the 1990s to today. —Elena Clavarino
