“The notion of fragmentation, especially of the body, is prevalent in our culture, and it’s reflected in my works,” says the multi-media artist Lorna Simpson. “We’re fragmented not only in terms of how society regulates our bodies but in the way we think about ourselves.” Simpson’s collages nod to Cubism and Surrealism but use imagery from African-American visual culture. This exhibition, which brings together work from the last 20 years of her practice, is her largest yet in Europe. —Elena Clavarino
