Birds in Art: 2021

Sept 11 – Nov 28, 2021
700 N 12th St, Wausau, WI 54403, USA

“In my deepest troubles,” wrote John James Audubon, “I frequently would wrench myself from the persons around me and retire to some secluded part of our noble forests.” Secluded from mankind, but not from birds. Add in meadows, shores, marshes, plains—and the studio—and you have bird artists in their habitats through time. Now in its 46th year, the annual Birds in Art exhibition at the Leigh Yawkey Woodson Art Museum is showing the work of 113 artists from around the world. The mediums are many— the artist Steven Spazuk, for instance, creates images with smoke—and the birds themselves, well, transporting. —L.J.
