The sea, the sea. We all need to see the sea when it’s summer. But if you can’t make it to the coastline for a breath of briny air, Julian Charrière’s solo show “Midnight Zone” might do the trick. At Perrotin Tokyo, Charrière plunges viewers into the ocean sublime beauty of the Earth’s deep oceans. Using coral dust, volcanic rock, and ghostly video loops, he conjures a world where time slows and light disappears. It’s part sci-fi dream, part ecological elegy, part eerie escape. —Carolina de Armas
