The beneficiary of a recent tune-up, this traditional Viennese café in the Neue Galerie couldn’t feel less like a museum restaurant if it tried. At Café Sabarsky, the restrained extravagance that’s so typical of Austria is on full display, from glorious fin de siècle design to perfectly thin schnitzel and a paralyzing selection of pastries with eye-crossing, prescription-like names: Schwarzwälder Kirschtorte, Topfentorte, and Apfelstrudel. Sabarsky’s greatest credit is that it’s the perfect place to bring a grandparent, or any family member, for that matter—it’s impressive but civilized, conservative yet not dull. Just make sure to hit the museum first, because you’re not going to want to do much of anything after trying one of their deadly desserts. —Elena Clavarino
