My Favorite Things

By day, Zachary Weiss is a brand consultant, currently serving as the head of brand for Outerspace, a logistics-and-warehousing concept for high-growth direct-to-consumer companies. By night, he is a man-about-town. After getting his start in Manhattan as a weekly party columnist at age 23, he remains a social fixture, often spending his off-hours glad-handing and globe-trotting. From the bombastic to the downright banal, here are just a few of his favorite things

Zachary Weiss for Stubbs & Wootton

$650

Club Sandwich Velvet Slippers

“My ego wouldn’t allow me to not include a pair of velvet slippers from my collaboration with Stubbs & Wootton, which was all inspired by my favorite elements of hotel living—including the club sandwich!”

Anderson & Sheppard

$655

Cashmere Roll Neck Sweater

“This was originally a splurge item, since it looks like any other navy turtleneck, but it’s quickly become an essential layering piece. I don’t travel without it.”

New & Lingwood

$1,540

Peacock Silk Dressing Gown

“I spent my first three years in Manhattan hitting the pavement as a party columnist for a newspaper, and got burnt out on regular black-tie. I like to spice it up with outlandish options, like this silk robe from New & Lingwood, which gives new meaning to ‘peacocking.’”

Thom Browne

$1,250

Slim-Fit, Button-Down-Collar Oxford Shirt

“I had a bunch of white shirts made, very affordably, the last time I was in Hong Kong. I like—and by ‘like’ I mean ‘refuse to wear any shirts without’—an oversized Oxford collar. This Thom Browne iteration is an elevated take on that … not to mention I’d join a cult if Browne started one.”

RRL

$2,600

Fringed Wool-Blend Jacquard Rug

“I’m lucky to visit Montana every so often, and I try to steal inspiration from the homes out there for my apartment, to avoid falling in the ‘midcentury metropolitan’ trap that seems to plague Manhattan.”

RBT

$125

Champagne Saber

“A favorite wedding gift to break the tired tradition of giving servingware and salad bowls.”

Nice Laundry

$59

Boxer Briefs Variety 3-Pack

“I have at least 20 pairs of these boxer briefs. Supersoft, with just enough stretch.”

My Favorite Things

Alina Cho takes an omnivorous approach to journalism, pursuing a wide range of stories that all seem to identify a particular sensibility that she shares in her digital newsletter, Cho & Tell. An Emmy Award–winning contributor to CBS Sunday Morning, Cho is also a producer of the upcoming Netflix documentary on Martha Stewart and the host of “The Atelier with Alina Cho,” a conversation series at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Like her stories, her style essentials have both personality and verve, and they manage to make a strong statement without dominating the conversation. Here, she shares her must-haves of the moment

Samantha Boardman

$14

Everyday Vitality

“Dr. Samantha Boardman writes, ‘We are what we do.’ And she says doing things as simple as taking a walk three times a week can give us vitality, the positive energy that’s at the core of having a great day, every day. This book is full of good, practical advice I’ve taken to heart.”

Peepers

$27

Center Stage Reading Glasses

“Every time I wear these reading glasses, I get compliments. “Are they Tom Ford?” I love telling people I bought them for less than $30. I have at least 10 pairs (in black and tortoise) scattered around my house.”

Alex Mill

$225

Expedition Jumpsuit in Washed Twill

“This Alex Mill jumpsuit is a key part of my weekend uniform. It’s casual (but not too casual) and slimming! I have it in multiple colors. P.S.: You can’t beat the price.”

Mr. Mittens

$610

Buttoned Aran Cardigan

“This is one of my favorite pieces in my wardrobe right now. Sure, it’s a cardigan, but in early fall it doubles as a coat. Wear it over a dress or a jumpsuit and you’re good to go.”

David Webb

$28,500

Chevron Ring

“Hands down, my favorite ring of all time. At some point, I’ll get it. Someday.

Prada

$1,100

Brushed Leather Slingback Pumps

“I first spotted these low-heeled Prada pumps in Paris last fall, and couldn’t get them out of my mind. Pre-coronavirus, I would’ve never considered buying shoes that didn’t give me at least three to four inches of height. Times have changed. And these slingbacks even have a rubber sole!”

Marie-Chantal has many lives. She is an expert in art history, a mother of five, the founder of an eponymous children’s-wear collection, and even the crown princess of Greece. As of 2019, she was anointed an expert on the art of living, thanks to the publication of her book, Manners Begin at Breakfast: Modern Etiquette for Families. It’s a rather intimidating C.V., but Marie-Chantal is as friendly, approachable, and stylish as they come. Naturally, her must-haves of the moment combine functionality, style, and charm

Marie-Chantal

“I couldn’t live without my Angel Wing fleece robe. The adult collection launched early this year and sold out straight, proving my theory that life is better cozy.”

$255

Wonder Woman Soho Notebook

“Every Christmas, my daughter, Olympia, buys me a Smythson notebook—perfect for jotting down ideas and sketching new collections. This year’s is pink, with “Wonder Woman” embossed on the front cover.”

Alexandra Von Furstenberg

$185

Fearless Tray

“My clever sister designed these beautiful trays in a variety of colors. I have an assortment around the house.”

My Favorite Things

After graduating from the London School of Economics, Jennifer Chamandi got her start in banking at Merrill Lynch, where she took to the trading floor in her signature stilettos. Ultimately, she decided to walk away from finance (in towering heels) in favor of fashion. Now her five-year-old label is a hit with shoppers around the world. With loyal clients such as Amal Clooney, Olivia Colman, the Duchess of Sussex, and Helen Mirren, no further stamp of approval may be necessary. And yet Chamandi continues to direct her considerable energies toward growing a label that aims to complement women without overpowering them. Herewith, the designer identifies her must-haves of the moment

Safiyaa

$975

Karine Merino-Wool Turtleneck Sweater

“This is one of my favorite pieces of clothing. Safiyaa’s Daniela Karnuts is incredibly talented, and I own this turtleneck in five different colors with matching trousers. I feel comfortable, beautiful, and casual, but still look very put together and stylish.”

Jia Jia

$990

Jumbo Amethyst Geode Heart

“My first bespoke client bought me this when I moved into my showroom for protection. Amethyst is great for protecting energy and enhancing creativity, so I always have it on display in my office.”

Rose-Gold Push Pins

“I buy these to match the corkboard. They are elegant and perfect for holding images in place.”

Jennifer Chamandi

$930

Tommaso Black Satin Crown Jewel Sandals

“Designing these shoes gave me some of the most joy I have had. The ‘crown jewel’ detailing is a personal favorite because, to me, it is the epitome of dressing up. I call them ‘the tiara of the foot!’ They are timeless and classic but still feel modern.”

Boghossian

$17,600

Merveilles Eternity Ring

“The Merveilles technique is revolutionary within jewelry. The diamonds catch the light from every angle, and it really sparkles. I wear this as an everyday wedding band. It is simple yet so striking at the same time.”

Bonpoint

$263

Girls’ Silk Panne Velvet Dress

“I fell in love with this dress when I saw it, and my twin girls wore these for our New Year’s celebration. I always dress my girls in Bonpoint. Their clothes are the highest quality, and so beautiful. The Victorian style with the large flower feels very couture to me, and the girls absolutely loved wearing them.”

Sisley Paris

$235

Velvet Nourishing Cream

“I recently changed my skin-care routine following a recommendation from a friend. This is the best moisturizer I have ever used. My skin feels incredibly soft and hydrated, and it smells amazing.”

My Favorite Things

British-born American journalist Daisy Prince is intimately familiar with the newsmakers, troublemakers, and social mainstays of certain rarefied circles on both sides of the Atlantic. Contributing to publications ranging from Vogue and Town & Country to the Financial Times, she deftly chronicles the rituals, mores, and contradictions of the beau monde. A resident of New York City, Bridgehampton, and Newport, the mother of two also spent years as the editor in chief of Avenue, the magazine of society and social history. Herewith, the AIR MAIL Editor at Large shares the finds that appeal to her most today

Gucci

$4,200

GG Linen Canvas Kaftan

“When I was working at London’s ES Magazine, I had an addiction to Net-a-Porter so serious I had their sleek, black bags delivered to the mail room downstairs instead of directly to my office, for fear that my bosses would find out just how much time I spent on the site shopping. This Gucci tunic is something I’d pair with knee-high boots and picture myself wearing in Rome in the 1960s.”

Heywood Hill

$94

January Fiction Bundle

“This shop is a book-lover’s paradise. You can easily—and very happily—while away a few hours here looking at their wares. The salespeople have always actually read the books. This new January fiction bundle looks like the perfect thing to settle down with for a long winter ahead.”

Jimmy Choo

$555

Romy 85 Dégradé Pumps

“Harvey Nichols’s buyer seems to know exactly what I’m looking for and what is completely impossible to resist even when I don’t. I usually say I’ll spend just 15 minutes, only to find that two hours later I’m still in their very spacious dressing rooms trying on everything in sight. I hope parties return this year so I can wear these sparkly shoes to them.”

Truce

$38

Supergirl Tee

“The women who started Maisonette all have children themselves, and it shows. The site is well-organized, easy to navigate, and fantastic for presents. I have boys, but if I had a girl, I’d definitely dress her in this Supergirl T-shirt.”

Uncrate Supply

$300

Carbon Fiber Poker Set

“My father taught me how to play poker when I was eight years old on family vacations. We used matchsticks for bets until I graduated to quarters. I taught my boys how to play—they’re total sharks—and we play on winter weekends.”

Rimowa

$720

Cabin Suitcase

“In terms of improving quality of life when you travel, Rimowa suitcases are the golden ticket. The lozenge-like carriers roll so gently that you barely have to push them, and they seem to perfectly flatten and fit whatever you pack. We have four in the family, and I’m thinking of adding more.”

My Favorite Things

Lollipop Ring

“[Retrouvaí founder] Kirsty Stone’s Lollipop collection is somehow classic and playful all at once. The most perfect, special pieces, blending precious and semi-precious stones. I have one with malachite and green tourmaline and thought it would be a special-occasion piece, but I wear it with everything.”

Cara Cara

$695

“This dress from Cara Cara is everything. The cut looks great on everyone—that neckline—and the forest-green toile is perfection. Wear it with boots for a more casual look, or heels and great jewelry for evening.”

Richard Christiansen, founder of the Chandelier Creative agency, leads teams in New York, Los Angeles, and Paris, where they help brands from Hermès and Cartier to Calvin Klein and Nike realize their messaging goals. A native of Australia, Christiansen—who spends much of his spare time tending to his garden and traveling—channeled his passions into the debut of Flamingo Estate, his hilltop idyll in L.A. and the name of his new home-and-garden brand. It’s here that the conservation-minded entrepreneur lives with his dogs, chickens, goats, and bees. Here are a few items of particular interest to him right now

Flamingo Estate

$75

Fridays from the Garden Cookbook

“This book is a testament to a newfound connection to the natural world at a time we need it most. It’s a monument to the pleasures of the Flamingo Estate garden, the people that keep it buzzing, and the myriad ways Mother Nature takes care of us when we take care of her.”

Leica

$8,995

M 10-R Digital Range-Finder Camera

“I took an older version of this camera to Mount Everest, up to the North Pole, and down to the South Pole. My version got banged up, frozen, and crushed—and it still works perfectly. Life needs better photos, and the Leica M 10-R is the best gift for anyone with a good eye.”

Flamingo Estate

$200

Limited-Edition Indigo Soap Set

“I think a hot bath is the greatest luxury. So we made these soaps from rare Japanese essential oils: hinoki, hiba, Kitayama sugi, and yakusugi, responsibly sourced from UNESCO-protected cedar forests in Japan, from the limbs of previously cut trees. Each comes hand-wrapped in ukiyo-e woodblock prints from the 17th century.”

Loewe

$1,250

Mohair-and-Wool Blanket

Drake’s

$1,095
