Head to New York’s Upper East Side for the 9th Annual New York WILD Film Festival, the city’s premier documentary film festival. Held in the headquarters of the historic Explorers Club, attendees can watch this year’s most exciting wilderness films surrounded by relics of expeditions past: maps used by Napoleon Bonaparte during his Egypt expedition; a lion shot by club member Teddy Roosevelt. Among the films on hand is Haulout (2022), an Academy Award-nominated short documentary on the phenomenon of walrus beachings on a remote Arctic beach. Following the screening is a Q&A with co-director Maxim Arbugaev and biologist Maxim Chakilev. Can’t find a babysitter? Bring the kids on Sunday for Family Day, which offers activities such as a cricket tasting challenge and a Bronx Zoo animal stuffy giveaway.
